Welcome to Fairview -- a school with over 800 students in grades Pre K-eight. We are located in Sylva, a small town in Western North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Last year, our highly qualified staff of fifty-five teachers completed over 2,000 hours of professional development. Because of our school-university partnership with Western Carolina University, our student teachers, called interns, spend a full year with a master teacher at Fairview. In 1994 (?) we were named as a North Carolina Physical Education Demonstration School, the only Pre k-8 school in the nation to have that designation. For the past three years, our school has focused on developing a large part of our campus as an outdoor environmental classroom which we call WildWatch. Much of that work was highlighted in our curriculum fair. We have a very active PTA which coordinates our parent volunteers.
